Construction insight for project owners.
Construction
Selecting a contractor is one of the most consequential decisions in a project. A structured comparison protects your budget, programme and quality.

Ask for work similar in type and scale to yours. A contractor strong in structures may not suit a specialist plant installation. Request photographs, references and a description of their role on each project.
Understand who will manage your project, which works are self-performed and which are subcontracted, and how they will resource the programme.
Ask how inspections are recorded, how defects are closed out and how site safety is supervised. Request documents rather than general assurances, and verify any certifications claimed.
You should know who your point of contact is, how often progress is reported and how changes are handled. Poor communication is a common cause of disputes.
A good proposal states scope, inclusions, exclusions, assumptions and a clear change process. The lowest price with vague scope often becomes the most expensive.
Who supervises the site daily? What is the programme and its key risks? How are variations priced? What is handed over at completion? Review previous projects and speak with past clients where possible.
Compare scope and assumptions first. Differences in price usually reflect differences in what is included.
Company profile, project references, method statements, safety procedures and a detailed programme.
Tell us about your scope, location and timeline and we will respond with the next steps.
